Ishibashi Foundation Summer Fellowship: A truly precious opportunity

The Ishibashi Foundation Summer Fellowship was extremely well-curated and organised. My expectation when I decided to apply for the program was that the three-week duration would comprise introductory lectures of various topics across Japanese art history plus a specific trip to the British Museum’s manga exhibition (which was the only museum exhibition mentioned in the call-for-application). Therefore, the goal that I initially set for myself was to use this summer to gain some basic knowledge of Japanese art history. One can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when I first read … Continue reading Ishibashi Foundation Summer Fellowship: A truly precious opportunity

Exciting opportunities and stimulating experiences on the Ishibashi Summer Fellowship

Now that the Ishibashi Summer Fellowship for Japanese Arts and Cultural Heritage has concluded and all the experiences and information I absorbed during the three weeks have settled in, my time at UEA still feels like a dream come true. It is still hard to believe that I met all these wonderful people from places distributed all over the world, and that we became such close friends in such a short period of time simply because we … Continue reading Exciting opportunities and stimulating experiences on the Ishibashi Summer Fellowship

One of the Best Summers I’ve Ever Had – 2019 Japan Orientation

Many months have passed since the Japan Orientation Program ended, but there are countless days when I find myself reliving of those unforgettable two weeks. My time at the University of East Anglia has been a once in a lifetime experience that shaped one of the best summers that I have ever had. I believe that everyone should see and participate in this program which … Continue reading One of the Best Summers I’ve Ever Had – 2019 Japan Orientation

William’s Experience of the Deakin Work Integrated Learning Programme

I first learnt of the Deakin – University of East Anglia, England work-integrated learning program fairly late in the semester when looking for a last international experience that I could do in my degree, having previously done an exchange and another internship program. In hindsight, the decision to apply for this program was one of the best decisions of my university degree.  Having travelled around … Continue reading William’s Experience of the Deakin Work Integrated Learning Programme

The Chance to Gain New Experiences in Japanese Studies at UEA

On 10 April 2019, the day after my twentieth birthday, I was informed that I was one of the fourteen students who had been awarded with the Japan Orientation Scholarship Award at UEA Summer Study Programme. At that moment, I felt that I brought my passion towards Japanese studies to a new level. I started my major in Japanese language and Asian studies at Karoli Gaspar University in Budapest in 2017, at the age of eighteen. The award has given me the chance to gain … Continue reading The Chance to Gain New Experiences in Japanese Studies at UEA

Learning New Perspectives on the Ishibashi Summer Fellowship

As I am a student from Japan this program was a great opportunity to observe and interpret Japanese art from a foreign point of view. Throughout the program I had opportunities to visit museums exhibiting Japanese ceramics and porcelain, and it was intriguing to see how their presentation differed from that of a typical museum in Japan.  The most significant dissimilarity between UK and Japan I noticed was that almost all UK museums display their ceramics collection using tall shelves with 5-6 tiers each, and arrange the … Continue reading Learning New Perspectives on the Ishibashi Summer Fellowship

Three Unforgettable Weeks of the Ishibashi Fellowship that’ll have a Long-lasting Impact

With all the excitement we had for the Ishibashi Summer Fellowship, we started our first week in Norwich, getting to know the city and learning what it has to offer. After being introduced to the campus of University of East Anglia, which we would be using for the remainder of the Programme, and possibly in the future when we come back, we soon moved to the … Continue reading Three Unforgettable Weeks of the Ishibashi Fellowship that’ll have a Long-lasting Impact

Egor’s Experience of the Japan Orientation Programme

Here I want to share with my experience from the short-term exchange program at University of East Anglia. First of all, I came to the UK, to the UEA campus, which is situated in a place that looks more like a resort centre – forest area, beautiful lake and broad green fields. This environment is amazingly healthy for your mind – such a calm atmosphere let you … Continue reading Egor’s Experience of the Japan Orientation Programme

Viktoria Found Norwich Perfect On Her Japan Orientation 2019

Norwich was the perfect city for me, not too small but not too crowdy with a lot of green surroundings. I adored the calm area especially at the UEA campus with its cute bunny rabbits. The perfect place to chill after your classes with your mates, so it has its own magic.  What UEA gave me When I first applied to the summer programme, I … Continue reading Viktoria Found Norwich Perfect On Her Japan Orientation 2019
